PASADENA, CA – The City of Pasadena’s Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department annual Veterans Day Ceremony will honor and remember past Pasadena resident and Medal of Honor recipient Lt. Colonel Raymond G. Harvey on Tuesday, November 11, during the ceremony at Pasadena City Hall, 100 N. Garfield Ave., beginning at 10:30 a.m.
In addition to the recognition of Lt. Colonel Harvey, attendees can expect:
The Medal of Honor, our nation’s highest military decoration, is awarded for valor in action against an enemy force. It is bestowed by the President on behalf of Congress to servicemembers who distinguish themselves through “gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his or her life above and beyond the call of duty.”
Raymond G. Harvey ranks among the most highly decorated soldiers in United States Army history. He was a Chickasaw Indian who resided in Pasadena upon entering military service in 1939 and returned to Pasadena after his service in World War II and Korea.
During World War II, Harvey served with the 79th Infantry Division and participated in that division’s campaigns in northern France and Germany. He received the Medal of Honor for his heroism in Korea as a Captain leading Company C of the 7th Infantry Division. Harvey also earned the Distinguished Service Cross, 3 Silver Stars, 3 Bronze Stars, 3 Purple Hearts, and the French Croix de Guerre with Palm for his valor in World War II and Korea.

- Keynote speaker Associate Justice Eileen Moore, a decorated combat nurse who served in Vietnam with the Army Nurse Corps.
- Complimentary hot dogs served by Pasadena Fire Fighters Local 809.
- Family-friendly activities and exhibits curated by Martin Severance Chapter, NSDAR.
- Informational booths from the US Naval Sea Cadet Corps, American Legion Posts 13 & 280, and the Rose Bowl Stadium.
- A special flyover by the Condor Squadron at 11:11 a.m.
