The anticipation is building in the San Gabriel Valley as the community prepares to “Rock the Rails” in celebration of the grand opening of the Metro A Line Extension from Azusa to Pomona on Friday, September 19, beginning at 11:30 a.m. Four brand-new stations Glendora, San Dimas, La Verne/Fairplex, and Pomona North will welcome riders for the very first time with music, food, and festivities.
The Pomona North station will serve as the heart of the celebration, where Metro has partnered with It's Not a Phase, a Pomona-based collective of Cal Poly Pomona music industry students, to curate a lineup that showcases the pulse of the local music scene. From the indie sounds of The Paper Cutouts and Lunavine to the high energy of Apolloson, Velcro Wallets, RMB, and Tequila, Tequila, the stage will carry the voices of a new generation of Pomona's talent.
Meanwhile, the Glendora, San Dimas, and La Verne/Fairplex stations will come alive with the beats of DJs Libra, Henry Esparza, A.O., and Alexs, ensuring that every stop along the extension is filled with rhythm. Food trucks and community activations will greet visitors at all four stations, making the event not just a transit milestone but a true community celebration.
To encourage exploration, Metro is offering free rides across its entire system, including Bus, Rail, Metro Micro, and Bike Share throughout the weekend. Free rides begin at the start of service on Friday and continue until 3 a.m. on Monday, September 22. Riders can use the promo codes 091925 for Bike Share and ALINEEXT for Metro Micro.
The ribbon-cutting marks more than the opening of new stations; it represents Metro's commitment to building the most ambitious transportation infrastructure program in the nation. As part of its Vision 2028 Plan, Metro is working to expand mobility, reduce congestion, and strengthen connections across Los Angeles County, where more than 1 million people board its fleet of 2,200 low-emission buses and seven rail lines every day.
This Friday, the trains will begin rolling and the music will play. From Glendora to Pomona, the community is invited to ride, dance, and celebrate a new chapter in L.A.’s transit story.
