Los Angeles, CA – [Insert Date] — Progress continues on the upcoming Samuel Oschin Air and Space Center at the California Science Center. While construction is still underway, the Science Center has successfully installed the first artifact in the Korean Air Aviation Gallery: a Hawker Siddeley Harrier T.4, a groundbreaking jet-powered strike aircraft with vertical/short takeoff and landing capabilities.
Built circa 1975 for the Royal Air Force, the Harrier was the world's first operational V/STOL combat aircraft and remains one of the most iconic fighter jets ever flown. Its installation marks the first of approximately 20 aircraft that will be featured in the new Aviation Gallery, which will highlight the science of flight across three thematic areas: Learning to Fly, Everyday Flight, and Advanced Aviation.
The Samuel Oschin Air and Space Center is expected to be completed by the end of 2025, with the official opening date yet to be announced. There is currently no public access to the new Aviation Gallery due to ongoing construction.
The Samuel Oschin Air and Space Center is being realized through the EndeavorLA Campaign, with over $375 million raised toward the $450 million goal. The campaign is supported by lead donors including the Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Oschin Family Foundation, the State of California, Korean Air, the Kresa Family Foundation, and many other supporters.
